Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Dylan Lesko was taken by the San Diego Padres in the first round, 15th overall, of the 2022 amateur draft after winning the 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year award. His signing bonus was $3.9 million. He underwent Tommy John surgery that April, but the Padres took him in the first round, anyway. He was expected to be out until 2024 but beat that timing by making it back during the 2023 season when he made a total of 12 starts spread among three teams - the ACL Padres, the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League and the Fort Wayne Wizards of the Midwest League. He went 1-5, 5.45, allowing 29 hits and 22 walks in 33 innings, but also picking up 52 strikeouts.

In 2024, he began the season at Fort Wayne and was 1-9, 6.46 after 16 starts when he was one of three prospects traded by the Padres to the Tampa Bay Rays in order to acquire reliever Jason Adam on July 28th - the others were Homer Bush Jr. and J.D. Gonzalez. In spite of his lopsided record, he was considered the prize acquisition of the deal and was ranked the #3 prospect in the Padres' system at the time.
