Biographical Information[edit]

After his playing career ended, pitcher Dutch Leonard was a Chicago Cubs coach from 1954 to 1956. Dutch Leonard was able to remain an active and competitive pitcher through his mid-forties because of his knuckleball, which was one of the best of his generation. After leaving the coaching staff of the Chicago Cubs, Leonard worked with the Illinois Youth Commission until retirement in 1974. He died of congestive heart failure at the age of seventy-four in 1983.
