Biographical Information[edit]

Duane Theiss pitched 20 games for the Atlanta Braves in 1977 and 1978.

He was from Zanesville, OH and attended Marietta College in Ohio. Kent Tekulve had been at Marietta a few years before him.

With the Braves, he was 15 years younger than teammate Phil Niekro.

Theiss pitched six seasons in the minors, primarily as a reliever. He had a record of 24-15 and at least 24 saves. With the Richmond Braves in 1978, he was managed by Tommie Aaron. He had a record of 6-2 and tied for the team lead in saves with 7. In the majors that year, he posted an ERA of 1.42 in 3 games.

According to the Marietta College Athletics site, Duane's career ended due to a shoulder injury. He became pitching coach at Marietta and more recently at Ohio State University.
