Biographical Information[edit]

Drew Coble was an American League umpire from 1982 to 1999. He worked the 1991 World Series and a pair of All-Star Games. His career ended when he submitted his resignation as apart of a failed negotiating ploy by the umpires' union at the end of the 1999 season. When the dust settled in February 2002, he was allowed to retire with back pay and full benefits for the time missed.

He started his professional umpiring career in the Western Carolinas League in 1975, then moved to the Carolina League in 1976 and the Southern League in 1977. He moved up to the American Association in 1978 and stayed there until the end of 1981, after which he was promoted to the AL.
