Dragones de Ciudad Trujillo
The Dragones de Ciudad Trujillo were one of the most notable Dominican League teams of the 20th Century. Existing for one year, 1937, the team was sponsored by dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The team had only one native Dominican, relying on American, Cuban and Puerto Rican imports. The roster boasted Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Herman Andrews, Sam Bankhead, Bill Perkins, Leroy Matlock, Bob Griffith, Harry Williams, player-manager Lázaro Salazar, Tony Castaño, Perucho Cepeda and Silvio Garcia among others. The team won the title as anticipated.
