Biographical Information

Infielder Doug Strange played parts of nine seasons in the majors, primarily as a utility man. His best season was 1997, when he hit .257 with 12 homers as the Montreal Expos' primary third baseman. He only became the starter that year because Shane Andrews, who was expected to be the regular, missed most of the year with an injury.

After his playing career ended, Strange was a Florida Marlins scout in 2000 and 2001. After a year as a Pittsburgh Pirates scout, he moved into the team's front office as a special assistant to the Pirates' GM in 2003-2004. He spent 2005-2007 as assistant GM, then was Special Assistant to the General Manager again. In 2011 he is the Pirates' Director of Player Personnel.

Strange and his wife are the parents of five children, including quadruplets born in early 1997.
