Biographical Information[edit]

Doug Davis won the Milwaukee Brewers Unsung Hero Award in 2004. He was the Brew Crew's Opening Day starter in 2006. Doug featured a curveball as his best pitch.

In Davis' major league debut, on August 9, 1999, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers, 19-4, setting a team record by recording 25 hits. OF Jacob Brumfield and 2B Homer Bush had four hits apiece for Toronto while four other players recorded three safeties each. Davis entered the game in the 6th inning for Texas. In 2 1/3 innings of work, he allowed 11 hits, including three home runs, while surrendering 10 earned runs. He returned to the minors the next day.

At the beginning of the 2008 season, it was announced that Davis had thyroid cancer and would face surgery within a few weeks while continuing to play in the meantime. He missed about a month after the surgery before returning to the playing field. He re-signed with the Brewers on January 20, 2010, after three seasons spent with the Arizona Diamondbacks and had another health scare in May. Experiencing chest pains and concerned he might be suffering a heart attack, he checked into a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a viral infection of the heart lining. He was placed on the disabled list as a result.

After starting the 2011 season in the minors, he was called up by the Chicago Cubs and inserted in the starting rotation on May 14th. He went 1-7, 6.50 in what turned out to be his final big league season.

Davis made an almost complete pause when pitching with no one on base. He lifted his right foot to start his motion, then stopped with the foot in mid-air before resuming to throw.
