Biographical Information[edit]

Dorian Daughtry played in the Seattle Mariners organization from 1987 to 1989. He was drafted by the club in the 19th round of the 1987 amateur draft (one pick ahead of pitcher Mike Fyhrie) and was signed by scout Joe Nigro. In his first season, he hit .222/.285/.262 with six stolen bases in 41 games for the Bellingham Mariners. The following year, he hit .210/.240/.230 in 30 games for Bellingham and in 1993, he hit .236/.267/.333 in 25 games split between Bellingham and the San Bernardino Spirit. Altogether, he hit .221/.266/.268 with two home runs, 24 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 96 games. In 298 at-bats, he walked 16 times while striking out 84 times.

On June 15, 1991, he was convicted of manslaughter and reckless endangerment in the killing of a nine-year-old Brooklyn girl. According to the prosecution, Daughtry fired a gun into a crowd of people with whom he was arguing. The stray bullet hit her in the head while the child was sleeping in the family car.

Acquitted of second-degree murder, he was sentenced to a maximum of 25 years in jail. He was paroled in 2005.

His minor league roommate was Ken Griffey, Jr.[1]
