Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Don Williams played in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system from 1956 to 1967, winning California League MVP title in 1961. He was on the military list from October, 1961 to August, 1962, missing much of the 1962 season. An infielder, Williams led his league in assists 5 times in 9 full seasons, putouts twice, fielding percentage 4 times, and errors once. He only led in offensive categories during his MVP season, leading the Cal League in average (.363), hits (197), and runs (132).
Williams managed the Bakersfield Dodgers in 1968, going 1 for 2 in pinch-hitting appearances.
Williams was a scout for the San Diego Padres from 1968 to 1976 and a minor league instructor for the Padres from 1974 to 1976. He was then a big-league Padre coach from 1977 to 1980.
