Biographical Information[edit]

Don Leshnock pitched in one big league game.

After graduating from Ursuline High School in Youngstown, Ohio, Leshnock attended Youngstown State University. In three years at the school, he won 14 games and posted a 1.61 ERA. He was signed by the Detroit Tigers and scout Cy Williams prior to the 1969 season. Called up to the majors by Detroit during the 1972 season, he made his sole big league appearance on June 7th against the California Angels. He entered the game in the top of the 9th, retired the first two batters he faced, then allowed a pair of singles to Sandy Alomar and Mickey Rivers. He then struck out Vada Pinson to end the inning.

Following the 1972 season, Leshnock's contract was sold to the Philadelphia Phillies. He played in their chain for the Eugene Emeralds in 1973 and then ended his career with stints in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Kansas City Royals chains.

After baseball, Leshnock worked in the insurance industry for many years. He was inducted into the Youngstown State's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985. He was the father of Donnie Leshnock, who was a catcher in the New York Yankees organization.
