Biographical Information[edit]

Ohio native Don Fisher pitched two seasons in professional baseball, 1945 and 1946. Fisher was with the Major League New York Giants in 1945. Don appeared in two games (August 25 and September 30)

Fisher was chosen in a SABR article [1] for the most unlikely pitching performance of all time. He played "adult sandlot" ball until signing with the 1945 Giants. He was not effective in his first major league appearance but then in his second, he pitched a 13-inning shutout in his last major league game.

Fisher spent the 1946 season in the minor leagues with the Jersey City Giants of the International League with a 2-3 record and ended out the season and his pro baseball career with the Columbus Red Birds of the American Association with a 1-5 record. This gave him minor league totals of a 3-8 record in 99 innings and 30 appearances.

After baseball, Fisher worked 37 years in the trouble shooting department of the power and line maintenance division for CEI. Don died from congestive heart failure on July 29, 1973 at the Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, OH. He was 57 years of age.
