Biographical Information[edit]
Don Carrithers was a teammate of Jim Barr at Lynwood High School and later with the San Francisco Giants. In eight big league seasons with San Francisco, Montreal and Minnesota, he was 28-32 with a 4.45 ERA. His career almost ended when he was badly injured in a car wreck in April 1977. He was driving in a Volkswagen van with Twins teammate Mike Pazik as a passenger when, coming off Interstate 494 in Bloomington, MN, a young Ohio woman mistakenly got on the freeway via the exit ramp. Both men were seriously injured and Carrithers was out until late July, only pitching 5 more games in his big league career. Pazik suffered two broken legs and never pitched again in the majors, although he did make it back to the minors.
