Biographical Information[edit]

Second baseman Domingo Leyba was signed by the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent out of his native Dominican Republic before the 2013 season. He spent his first season with the DSL Tigers of the Dominican Summer League where he hit an excellent .348 with 5 homers and 36 RBIs at only 17. In 2014, he moved to the United States with the Connecticut Tigers of the New York-Penn League, hitting .264 in 37 games. At the start of August, he was promoted to the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League where he was on fire the rest of the way, in spite of being three and a half years younger that the league's average player: he hit .397 and scored 20 runs in 30 games, for a combined batting line of .323/.360/.423.

On December 5, 2014, the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired the youngster along with P Robbie Ray in return for P Shane Greene, completing the deal by which they had sent SS Didi Gregorius to the New York Yankees. He made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks during the 2019 season. He hit .280 in 21 games.

On March 6, 2020, he was handed an 80-game suspension for testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance.
