Dmitri Likhine was on the Russian national team in the 1999 European Championship, going 3 for 11 with two walks, a triple, two runs and two RBI while handling five chances error-free; he was their main left fielder. [1] During the 2001 European Championship, he hit .192/.222/.269 with four RBI in eight games, handling 18 putouts without a miscue. Russia had their first (and only as of 2023) medal in a European Championship, making it to the title game before falling to the Dutch national team. He was 0 for 3 against Rob Cordemans in the title game, as Russia got Silver. Confusingly, a teammate was Dimitri Loukine. [2] Russia made the 2001 Baseball World Cup. In that tournament, he hit .150/.150/.150 with two runs and no RBI in seven contests, playing fine defense in center (15 PO, 1 A, 0 E). [3]
In the 2003 European Championship, he hit .231/.259/.231 with two runs and four RBI in seven games. He led Russia in RBI, one ahead of Alexander Nizov. [4] He hit .200/.368/.267 in the 2003 Baseball World Cup with no runs or RBI in six games, fielding .818 in center; he led Russia in walks (4). [5]
