Biographical Information[edit]

Dike Varney, out of Dartmouth College, came to the majors at age 21 in 1902 with the Cleveland Blues.

He also pitched in the New England League.

He was known to be big on checkers outside of baseball and won second place in the 1909 checkers championship [1].

"Through Varney's pitching Nashua was able to shut out Lynn. The visitors made their only hit in the seventh inning." - report of a game played on May 26, 1905
