Biographical Information[edit]
Starting pitcher Dick Spady played in the Brooklyn Dodgers minor league system from 1948 to 1952 and in 1956. He began his career off well, posting ERAs of 2.80, 2.77 and 2.95 in 1948, 1950 and 1951, respectively. His 1949 statistics are not available, as he pitched less than 45 innings over his 13 appearances. He was 8-4 for the '48 Ponca City Dodgers, spent 1949 with the Santa Barbara Dodgers, was 6-6 for the 1950 Greenwood Dodgers and went 10-8 for the '51 Miami Sun Sox. In 1952, he was 10-9 with a 3.38 ERA for the Newport News Dodgers. He returned for one more season, going 11-8 with a 5.14 ERA for the 1956 Pueblo Dodgers.
Overall, he pitched 156 games and won at least 45 of them while losing at least 35.
After baseball, he worked for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (reaching Assistant Director) and was a partner at a farm management and farm loan firm in his native Hastings.
