Biographical Information[edit]

Diógenes Belliard was an outfielder for the Dominican national team. His son Ron Belliard would play in the majors.

He signed with the Licey Tigers in 1965 but never got to play a game as a pro as revolution broke out that year. When the Dominican League resumed play, Belliard did not feel he was in game shape to play. He played center field for the National Police from 1963-1975 in amateur ball and also played for other teams after 1975.

Belliard was on the Dominican national team in the 1966 Central American and Caribbean Games, 1969 Amateur World Series (Bronze medal), 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games (Silver medal), 1970 Amateur World Series, 1971 Amateur World Series (.313) and 1972 Amateur World Series (.324). 34 years later, his son Ron would play for the Dominicans in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He then played softball in the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games and 1978 Central American and Caribbean Games.
