Infielder Deric Ladnier was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the eighth round of the 1985 amateur draft and played in their organization until 1991 when his career was ended by a shoulder injury.

After retiring as a player, he was an Atlanta Braves scout, and also worked in the front office as assistant scouting director in 1996, assistant farm director in 1997 and farm director in 1998-1999.

Ladnier was the Scouting Director for the Royals from 2000 to 2008. In October of 2008 he was hired by the Washington Nationals to be a National Cross-checker and Special Assistant to the General Manager.
