Biographical Information[edit]

Denny Sullivan is the first of two major leaguers by that name. He played six games in the majors in 1879-80.

A Boston boy, he went to Boston College and College of the Holy Cross. He was the first player from BC to come to the majors and the second player from Holy Cross.

His first major league team was the 1879 Providence Grays, who won the 1879 National League pennant. The next year he was with the 1880 Boston Red Caps for one game. Providence was managed by George Wright and Boston was managed by Harry Wright.

Sullivan had an unusual post-baseball career compared to most of his contemporaries: he was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 1884, then served in a number of parishes in the Boston area. For the last ten years of his life, he was the pastor of St. Patrick's Church in Roxbury, MA.
