Biographical Information[edit]

Denny Riddleberger appeared in 103 major league games in 1970-72. His career major league ERA was an excellent 2.77.

Denny was born in Clifton Forge, VA, a place where (through 2019) only one other major leaguer has been born - Johnny Humphries. Denny attended Churchland High School, a place where through 2019 only one other major leaguer has attended - Ryan Glynn. His college was Old Dominion College, where his time there overlapped with one other major leaguer - John Montague.

Denny was mostly a reliever in the minors, working his way up the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 1967-70. He was traded August 31, 1970 to the 1970 Washington Senators, managed by Ted Williams, and he made his first major league appearance on September 15. In eight games in relief, he had an excellent 0.96 ERA with a WHIP of 0.964.

Denny came back for 57 games in relief with the 1971 Washington Senators. While his ERA was a decent 3.23, his WHIP was a bit high, at 1.421. He was traded in the off-season and spent his next season with the 1972 Cleveland Indians. The team had a 2.92 ERA, and Denny's was 2.50; his WHIP, at 1.241, was close to the team's 1.252.

In 1973 he was with the Oklahoma City 89ers, in the Cleveland organization, for 13 games, to end his minor league career.
