The Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly the Belgian Congo and Zaire, informally known as Congo-Kinshasa to distinguish it from its neighbor the Republic of Congo or Congo-Brazzaville) is a country in central Africa. One of the largest countries in the continent, it has been wracked by a series of wars and serious ethnic strife since its independence in 1960. Ntema Ndungidi was born here.
