Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Del Young is the father of infielder Del Young. Del Sr. played three years in the majors, mostly in the Federal League, and also had five years in the minors along with one season in independent ball.
Del Sr. hit over .300 outside of the majors and .265 in the majors during a dead ball era. He didn't have a lot of power, but he did get 19 triples in 1911 with the Fort Wayne Brakies. He played his most games in the majors in 1914 with the Buffalo Buffeds at age 28, putting up a batting line of .276/.288/.431 on a team whose line was .250/.311/.336. When he started slowly in 1915, he spent most of the year in independent ball.
His son Del was born in the spring of 1912, a year when Del Sr. was playing for the Nashville Volunteers.
