Biographical Information[edit]

Deivi Cruz was a regular big league shortstop for almost all of his nine big league seasons. Primarily a member of the Detroit Tigers, Deivi's finest season came in 2000 when he batted .302/.318/.449 with 10 home runs, 46 doubles and 82 RBI while playing in a career high 156 games. His Achilles heel was a crippling inability to draw a walk: in 1,234 games, he drew only 132, with a career best of 22 in 151 games with the San Diego Padres in 2002. He saw his final action in a split season affair with the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals in 2005, later playing in the Atlantic League and batting 3-for-10 with an uncharacteristic 3 walks as the shortstop for the Dominican Republic in the 2007 Pan American Games.
