During the 1911 season, the defending Three-I League champion Springfield Senators were moved to Decatur, IL to become the Decatur Nomads. The logic behind the move (as expressed by the club's owner) was that Springfield fans had become bored with too much success and wanted change. Decatur had been a member of the Three-I League prior to '10, using the name Decatur Commodores. The Nomads took the early lead in their 1911 debut but were surpassed by the Peoria Distillers as the year went on. Decatur finished second in 1911 at 69-60. Catcher Elmer Johnson led the league in batting at .320, earning him his only major-league look that season. In 1912, the team moved back to Springfield, and another Decatur squad took on the Commodores nickname.
