DeWitt's Base-Ball Guide
DeWitt's Base-Ball Guide was the sport's second guide, published from 1868 to 1885. Edited in its first year by M.J. Kelly, it was edited thereafter by Henry Chadwick, who was also the editor of the rival guide Beadle's Dime Base-Ball Player. Publishing players' averages beginning in 1872, it was the official guide of the National Association from 1872 to 1875, the National League in 1876, and for amateur baseball from 1872 until 1876. It ceased publication following its 1885 edition, when Chadwick retired as editor.
