Biographical Information[edit]
David Gauthier has played as a catcher and third baseman for Rouen in Division Elite, and has been with the team since 2006. He previously played for the Woodchucks de Bois-Guillaume from 1994-2005, and was at the "Pôle espoir INSEP" (French baseball academy) prior to that.
Gauthier played in Australia in 2007, for the Glenelg Tigers. He was greeted with 107° F weather on his first day there, and had to attend a training session in the terrible heat. He was known as "Lingy" while playing for the club.
In the 2007 European Cup, he was 2 for 8 with 5 strikeouts as Rouen became the first French team to win a Silver Medal in a European Cup. He played for the French national team in the 2007 European Championship, but struggled, going 0 for 8 with two walks and two errors. In the 2007 Division Elite, Gauthier hit .320/.417/.438 to help Rouen to a pennant. He played at least 10 games at catcher, first base and third base. In a similar utility role in the 2008 Division Elite season, David batted .355/.442/.449 with 28 RBI in 29 games. His primary role was as the backup to Boris Marche at catcher. He was 2 for 14 with 4 runs in the 2008 European Cup in Grosseto but his home run off Matthew Marrone was the lone Rouen circuit clout of the tournament, a bright spot.
