Biographical Information[edit]

David DiMarco was an Olympic player.

DiMarco, a Massachusetts native, came to Italy to play in 1978. He had a great campaign for Fortitudo Bologna, hitting .448/.570/.832 with 11 home runs, 39 walks, 49 runs and 57 RBI in 36 games; he went 3-0 and allowed one run in 23 innings. He led the Italian Baseball League in RBI. He played for the Italian national team in the 1978 Amateur World Series, struggling at the plate (3 for 26, 10 K, 2 BB, 3B, HR) and making two errors as a 1B-RF. He was Italy's lone southpaw hurler, allowing one run in 5 2/3 IP and getting a win.

David hit .394/.523/.614 with 37 walks, 45 runs and 40 RBI in 36 games for Bologna. He hit .385/.429/.731 for Italy when they won the 1979 European Championship, with two home runs, 7 runs and 12 RBI in 6 games as their starting first baseman. He led the team in RBI. He was named the MVP of those Euros. DiMarco was primarily used as a pitcher by Bologna in 1980, going 3-1 with a save, 2.45 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 22 innings. In the 1980 Amateur World Series, he batted .286/.444/.857 while splitting first base with Giorgio Castelli. He was 1-0 with a 4.37 ERA, walking 10 in 12 1/3 IP; only Michele Romano walked more than DiMarco for Italy.

DiMarco did not play in Italy from 1981-1983. In the 1983 European Championship, he backed up Pietro Rovezzi at 1B for Italy. He was 4 for 12 with 3 walks, a homer, 7 runs and one RBI for the Gold Medalists. He returned in 1984 with Milano, going 8-6 as a pitcher and hitting .324 with 8 home runs in 58 games. He appeared for Italy in the 1984 Olympics.
