Biographical Information[edit]

David Tellers pitched in the minor leagues from 1990 to 1996, peaking at Double-A. He was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 28th round of the 1990 amateur draft.

He was an effective reliever throughout his career, though he was usually older than the average pitchers in the leagues he played. In 1990, he was 4-2 with a 1.36 ERA in 20 games for the Welland Pirates, striking out 53 in 39 2/3 innings. Between two clubs in 1991, he was 6-6 with a 1.90 mark in 51 games, earning 11 saves. He was 5-8, 3.62 in 48 games in 1992 (between two clubs), adding another 12 saves to his ledger. Pivoting to the independent Duluth-Superior Dukes in 1993, he posted a 7-3 record and 2.45 ERA in 38 games. He led the Northern League in appearances. In 1994, he joined the Colorado Rockies system, going 1-6, 3.39 for the New Haven Ravens; with the same club in 1995, he went 2-5, 2.87. In 1996, his final campaign, he went 3-1 with 11 saves and a 3.95 ERA in 30 games for the independent Minot Mallards. He tied Craig Baumann for second in the Prairie League in saves, behind Mike Toney's 17.

Overall, Tellers went 28-31 with 58 saves and a 2.86 ERA in 261 games. In 459 2/3 innings, he allowed 407 hits and 110 walks (1.125 WHIP), while striking out 408 batters.
