Biographical Information[edit]
Dave Rader was a good-fielding catcher who came up with the San Francisco Giants in 1971. He replaced Dick Dietz behind the plate in 1972, and was named recipient of The Sporting News Rookie of the Year Award in the National League that season. The left-handed batter showed considerable ability at the plate early on, twice hitting over .290, but his production tailed off after a trade to the Chicago Cubs in 1978. Two years later, he was out of baseball.
Rader caught Ed Halicki's no-hitter of the New York Mets on August 24, 1975.
