Biographical Information[edit]

"Outfielder Dave Pickett was to close his Boston engagement Thursday, Aug. 18, having spent one month as a member of the Boston champions. Pickett did good work for Boston." - Sporting Life, August 20, 1898

Dave Pickett played many years in the minors, beginning in 1892, and came to the majors with the 1898 Boston Beaneaters. He had a .380 on-base percentage in his 14 games with the Beaneaters, a team which went 102-47 for the year. According to Sporting Life of August 6, 1898, the Beaneaters needed an extra outfielder for a while due to injuries to regulars Billy Hamilton and Chick Stahl and to utility man Jack Stivetts. Pickett, called "the left fielder of the disbanded Newports", was said to have "acquitted himself very creditably".

Pickett was born and died in Massachusetts. He played multiple years in the New England League, the New York State League and the Central League. A notice in Sporting Life in 1908 said that he had played in the Canal Zone the previous year and would manage a club during the 1908-09 season.

"A player it would be well to watch is Dave Pickett, of the Augusta team. He is very fast on his feet . . ." - Sporting Life, Nov. 16, 1895

"The surprise of the whole league this season is the work of Dave Pickett, of the Lowell team. The veteran is leading the league in runs scored and is batting over .300." - Sporting Life, June 15, 1907
