Dave Perno has been a successful college coach.
Perno played for the University of Georgia team that won the 1990 College World Series. He then became an assistant coach at Marshall University and later Middle Georgia Junior College, working with pitchers and recruiting at the latter stop. He moved up to the University of Georgia as an assistant coach and became head coach in July of 2001, replacing Ron Polk. He has guided Georgia to the College World Series in three of his first 7 years at the helm. In 2004, he won the Baseball America Coach of the Year award. He went 300-230-1 before being let go in 2013.
