Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Darren Reed played 82 games in the majors in 1990 and 1992. His minor league career started in 1984 and went through 1995, with 1996 spent in independent ball. He played five years in the International League.

All three of his major league teams finished in second place in their respective divisions, and won around 90 games for the season. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the secondary phase of the 1984 amateur draft but was traded to the New York Mets in December of 1987 with Steve Frey and Phil Lombardi for SS Rafael Santana and a minor leaguer. He first played for the Mets in 1990, hitting .205 in 26 games. During spring training in 1991, he was traded to the Montreal Expos with OF Alex Diaz in return for minor leaguers Terrel Hansen and Dave Sommer, but in his first Grapefruit League game with his new team, his wrist was broken by a pitched ball, and he missed the entire season. He returned in 1992 and played sparingly, hitting .173 in 42 games, but with the emergence of rookie OF Moises Alou, he was redundant and at the end of August was traded to the Minnesota Twins for P Bill Krueger. He hit .182 in 14 games for Minnesota, then the following November was traded back to the Mets, in return for OF Pat Howell. However, he never returned to the majors after that.
