Biographical Information[edit]
Darren Hodges spent two full seasons and part of a third at AA.
He was All-Conference at Ferrum College in 1989 and 1990. The New York Yankees chose him in the 10th round of the 1990 amateur draft. He had an excellent professional debut, going 6-3 with a 1.67 ERA for the Oneonta Yankees with 85 K in 86 innings. He was fifth in the New York-Penn League in ERA.
In 1991, Hodges went 6-8 with a 2.66 ERA and only 133 hits in 166 innings for the Prince William Cannons, whiffing 153. He was 10 strikeouts behind Carolina League leader Curt Leskanic and was 7th in the circuit in ERA, between future major leaguers Sterling Hitchcock and Leskanic.
Hodges split 1992 between Prince William (4-4, 2.60) and the Albany-Colonie Yankees (4-7, 6.05). In his second crack at AA, he was much better, going 10-10 with a 4.71 ERA for Albany-Colonie. In 1994, he went 5-1 with a 3.62 ERA for the club, ending his career. Overall, he had a 35-33, 3.52 record in five minor league seasons.
Darren was assistant coach at Ferrum for nine years before being promoted to head coach in 2007, a position he held until 2013.
