Biographical Information[edit]
Daniel Monzon was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers by Puerto Rico scout Felix Delgado. The 18-year-old third baseman reported to the Newark Co-Pilots in the New York-Pennsylvania League on June 12, 1976. By July 9th, Monzon had only seen action in six games and had gone 0 for 20. On July 10th, a Saturday night, Monzon drove in five runs on five hits including a bases-loaded double against the Elmira Pioneers. The Co-Pilots games on Sunday and Monday were rained out. Early in the morning on Tuesday, July 13th, the Newark police were called and informed that a fight was in progress. By the time they arrived at the scene, Monzon had been shot dead.
