Biographical Information[edit]

Dan Callahan was a minor league pitcher and a college coach.

After graduation from Quincy College in 1981, Callahan was signed as a pitcher by the San Diego Padres. He was 2-3 with two saves and a 3.31 ERA in 16 games for the 1982 GCL Padres.

He then began coaching at Springfield Lanphier High School then later moved to Springfield High School. From 1986-1987, he was a graduate assistant at Southern Illinois University.

Callahan was the head coach at Eastern Illinois University from 1989 to 1994.

In 1995, Callahan became head coach at Southern Illinois University. He compiled a 442-447-1 record in 16 seasons before passing away of neurotropic melanoma at the age of 52. At both EIU and SIU, he worked with assistant coach Derek Johnson, who later became a major league pitching coach.
