Dale Williams (umpire)
Crestley Dale Williams
- Born February 6, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA USA
Biographical Information[edit]
Dale Williams was a replacement umpire in the major leagues for a total of 23 games when the regular umpires went on strike in both 1978 and 1979. The first year, he worked a National League game at Dodger Stadium when the umpires staged a one-day strike to get their union recognized as an official bargaining unit. The next year, he worked both NL and American League games in Los Angeles, CA as the umpires walked out for a protracted period at the start of the season.
He is not to be confused with another Dale Williams, who was a pitcher during the NL's first season in 1876 - and who also umpired one game that year.
