Clarke was 18-15 with a 3.39 ERA in 1895, spinning 281 2/3 innings, then fell to 17-24 with a 4.26 mark in 351 innings in 1896. He kicked around as a spare arm in the majors until 1898, passing away from a cerebral hemorrhage at 46.
