Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher DL Hall was the 21st overall pick of the first round of the 2017 amateur draft, out of Valdosta High School in Georgia, by the Baltimore Orioles. After he signed, he was assigned to the GCL Orioles where the parent team were careful with his usage, limiting him to 5 starts and just 10 1/3 innings. He got a fuller baptism into professional ball in 2018, with the Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League. There, he made 20 starts in 22 appearances, pitching 94 1/3 innings. While his record was just 2-7, likely a result of not often pitching past the 5th inning to qualify for a win, most of his other numbers were excellent: an ERA of 2.10, 68 hits allowed and 100 strikeouts. Only his 42 walks were less than ideal. On July 5th, he combined with relievers Alex Katz and Ryan Wilson for nine hitless innings against the Hagerstown Suns; however, Delmarva lost the game, 1-0, in 10 innings, but long after he was gone from the mound. In 2019, he was promoted to the Frederick Keys of the Carolina League, where he was 4-5, 3.46 in 19 games (17 starts). He logged 80 2/3 innings, striking out 116 and walking 54. The high totals on both sides of the K/W ledger again resulted in high pitch counts, and limited innings.

He made his major league debut for the Orioles as the starting pitcher against the Tampa Bay Rays on August 13, 2022. He was charged with his team's 8-2 loss after giving up 5 runs in 3 2/3 innings. His other 10 appearances that season were in relief, and he ended up at 1-1, 5.93 with 1 save, logging 13 2/3 innings. In 2023, he had a better year as he went 3-0, 3.26 in 18 games, all in relief, with 23 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings. He pitched twice in the Orioles' loss to the Texas Rangers in the Division Series, giving up just 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 1/3 scoreless innings.

On February 1, 2024, he was sent to the Milwaukee Brewers in a big trade, accompanying infielder Joey Ortiz and a Compensation Round A pick in the 2024 amateur draft - the 34th overall pick of the draft - in return for ace pitcher Corbin Burnes.
