Biographical Information[edit]
Crazy Schmit, nicknamed "Germany", was not born in Europe but in Chicago, IL. He pitched five years in the majors between 1890-1901, never having a winning season but posting decent ERA's a couple of times.
He is notable for being a member of the starting rotation on the hapless 1899 Cleveland Spiders, and in 1901 was in the American League in its inaugural year.
He managed at Meridian in 1908.
He umpired in the 1907 Three I League for three or four games.
