Columbia Commies

From BR Bullpen

In 1911 the Columbia Gamecocks of Columbia, SC changed their name to the Columbia Commies. They went 38-28 in the first half of the South Atlantic League season (third of eight teams) then won the second half title at 39-21 before losing to the Columbus Foxes in the championship match-up. The Commie staff was led by Fullenwider (26-9-1) and Wagner (22-10-1). Smith (.351) led the league in hitting and led outfielders in fielding percentage (.985). The club name changed again in 1912 as they became known as the Columbia Comers.
