Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Cody Morris reached the major leagues with the Cleveland Guardians at the end of the 2022 season. He had been a 7th-round selection in the 2018 amateur draft. In his first taste of the majors, he went 1-2, 2.28 in 7 games, 5 of them starts. He impressed enough to be added to the Guardians' roster for the postseason and made one appearance in the Division Series against the New York Yankees, pitching two hitless and scoreless innings in relief. It looked like that had earned him a regular job for 2023, but he made only 6 appearances for Cleveland, al in relief, posting an ERA of 6.75 in 8 innings. He spent the bulk of the season in AA and AAA, going 2-1, 3.23 in 21 games.

On December 26, 2023, he was traded to the New York Yankees, who needed to add some pitching depth, in return for perennial outfield prospect Estevan Florial, who had played in the majors each of the previous four seasons, but had always found other players blocking his path to a regular job at the major league level.
