Cocoa Expos

From BR Bullpen

The Cocoa Expos were based in Cocoa, FL and played in the Florida East Coast League in 1972. The Montreal Expos farm club was horrible, going 9-47-1 for a .161 winning percentage. Managed by Pat Daugherty, the team hit .200 and was outscored 399-185. One bright spot was the presence of future Hall-of-Famer Gary Carter at catcher. Carter only fielded .933, making 7 errors in 14 games behind the plate, with 5 passed balls to boot. He added two errors in three tries at third base and fielded .962 in 4 contests at first base for all-around defensive ineptitude. Carter hit .239/~.316/.366 in his 18 games.

Also notable was the presence of future NHL and WHA goaltender Michel Dion, who hit .147 in 17 games while sharing duties with Carter behind the plate. The team's best player was probably outfielder Ellis Valentine however, who hit .266 in 53 games. On the mound, Dennis Blair was the lone bright spot, going 1-0, 2.45 in 5 starts in spite of walking more batters than he struck out.
