Biographical Information[edit]
One of five baseball playing brothers including Jim Mattox, Cloy Mattox came out of college in 1929 and made his debut in September of that year for the Philadelphia Athletics, who went on to win the 1929 World Series, although Mattox did not appear.
Cloy was a college football player around the same time that one of his brothers was also a college football star at Washington and Lee University. pp. 1 & 3
Through 2020, he is the only major leaguer with the first name Cloy, although Cloyd Boyer comes close.
