Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Cliff Brannon played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 1989 to 1992 and in the San Francisco Giants system in 1995. He was drafted in the 29th round of the 1989 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher Paul Swingle.

He stole 16 bases with two home runs his first season, then hit 18 home runs with seven steals his second campaign. He led the South Atlantic League in homers, one ahead of Mike Burton and Craig Curtis. In 1991, he had 11 swipes and four dingers. After struggling to a .212/.261/.324 slash line in 1992, his career was over, save for a brief three-game appearance in the Giants system in 1995, now as a pitcher (5.40 ERA). Overall, Brannon hit .248/.306/.369 with 30 home runs and 170 RBI in 436 games. He pitched 13 games, going 1-0 with a 5.14 ERA. In 21 IP, he allowed 24 hits and 13 walks, fanning 18.
