Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Clem Dreisewerd played in the minors for a decade before reaching the majors with the Boston Red Sox. He had cups of coffee with the Sox in 1944, 1945, and 1946 and played in the World Series in 1946, facing and retiring one batter (Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter) in a blowout loss in Game 4. He split the 1948 season between the St. Louis Browns and New York Giants.

After his playing career ended, Dreisewerd was a construction contractor, building homes in the New Orleans, LA area, where he lived for 50 years. He died at age 85 of head injuries suffered in a fall while on vacation.

He is one of two former major league players, along with Vince Ventura, to have died on September 11, 2001. Both deaths were unrelated to the terrorist attacks of that day.
