Clearing the Bases
Clearing the Bases was written by Mike Schmidt and published in 2006. It covers his playing and managerial career as well as his opinions on numerous issues facing baseball. Unlike some older players, he acknowledges that current hitters are better than those of his era. He also spends significant time on the issue of steroids in baseball.
The title Clearing the Bases has also been used for other baseball books, including one written by Bill Starr in 1989 ranting about contemporary baseball, and another by Alan Barra and Bob Costas in 1992 subtitled "The Greatest Baseball Debates of the Last Century".
