Biographical Information[edit]
Clay "Spike" Van Alstyne was in the majors with the Washington Senators in 1927-28, pitching in six games. In his last major league at-bat, he hit his only home run.
The book Baseball in Reading has a photo of Van Alstyne.
The Altamont (N.Y.) Enterprise newspaper from July 29, 1921, refers to Van Alstyne as the pitcher for the Delanson team in the Schoharie Valley League.
The Albany Evening News of February 10, 1928, gave Van Alstyne a headline in the sports section when he re-signed with the Senators for 1928.
