Pitcher Chuck Dougherty was drafted by the Oakland A's in the 7th round of the 1978 amateur draft. He pitched in the A's chain in the Northwest League and California League in 1978-1980. In 1981, he was loaned out to the co-op San Jose Missions of the Cal League until May 20, 1981 when he was traded by the Athletics with Mike Patterson and Dave Revering to the New York Yankees for Jim Spencer and Tom Underwood. He finished the season with the Fort Lauderdale Yankees before retiring.
Overall he was 28-29 in 83 games (69 starts) over his four year career.
