Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Staehely has appeared for both the Swedish national team and also play in Organized Baseball. Chris went 8-0 with a 1.40 ERA as a senior in high school. Going to Princeton, he went 1-4 with a 5.60 ERA as a freshman. He improved to 5-2, 2.57 as a sophomore, leading Princeton's staff. He was second in the Ivy League in both ERA and wins. He pitched for the Cotuit Kettleers in the prestigious Cape Cod League and was excellent, going 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA. He tied for second in wins and tied for 9th in ERA in a league usually dominated by top prospects. Staehely was awful as a junior, going 0-6 with a save, 6.20 ERA and .339 average allowed.

Staehely then took a semester abroad in Sweden, where his mother Angelica was born. His Swedish family ties qualified him for the Swedish national team and he pitched for them in the 2007 European Championship. He was unimpressive, going 0-1 with 18 hits, 9 walks and 12 runs allowed in 11 2/3 innings. He gave up 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to Germany and Enorbel Márquez then went 0 for 1 as a pinch-hitter against each Croatia, the Netherlands and Austria. He got his second start against Great Britain and allowed 11 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings. He tossed 1 1/3 scoreless relief innings in a loss to Spain.

Staehely was 6-2 with a 4.91 ERA as a senior at Princeton, finishing 8th in the Ivy League in ERA while tying for the win lead. He was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 39th round of the 2008 amateur draft and signed. He made his pro debut with the Everett AquaSox, going 2-1 with a 4.95 ERA In 19 games but had a WHIP of 1.93.

Various sources list different heights for Staehely. The Princeton website lists 6' 3", the 2009 Mariners Media Guide says 6' 4" and minors.baseball-reference.com lists 6' 7".
