Pitcher Chris Taranto played in the Houston Astros minor league system in 1962 and 1963.
Prior to playing professionally, he attended Notre Dame High School. During his senior year, 1961, he tossed nine no-hitters -- including six in a row -- both of which remain records (the latter was tied by Tom Engle, who did it in 1989). In total, he threw 12 no-nos in his high school career, good for 5th all-time.
The Astros signed him for 1962 and he joined the Moultrie Colt .22s. That year, he was 2-3 with a 7.27 ERA in 25 games (4 starts), striking out 61 batters in 52 innings. In 1963, he was 0-6 with a 5.40 ERA for the Colt .22s, K-ing 45 batters in 40 frames. Overall, Taranto went 2-9 with a 6.46 ERA in 36 games (9 starts), striking out 106 batters in 92 innings.
